The story of a 15 year old dream being fulfilled contrary to all rational thinking. Of giving up what most wouldn’t to live the life you want to, not the one you happen to be leading.

Our First Full Day
As we drove through Green Bay from the airport last night I came to realise just how small this town actually is. Maybe it’s just my naivety but boy, as an outsider…
Green Bay, On Our Way!
I’ve been posting on this site for a while already, but the trip legitimately starts here. As lovely as LA was, it was just a stop-over en route to…
Last Day in LA
Two immediate differences between the US and back home. Firstly, it’s Fathers Day back home today but no sign of it here (apparently it’s in June at some point). Secondly…
Football, Food and Brand New Friends
“Give me a V-I-K-I-N-G-S. What does it spell? Vikings! Relax, Packer fans, relax. I’m talking about the brute strength and pure speed of the mighty SAMOHI Vikings.
Santa Monica Pier
It’s beautiful and warm outside, you can smell the salt in the air but we are all so short on sleep that lazing around the hotel seems like, again, the best thing to do.
Word(s) of the Day
Kelly and I barely slept a wink all night courtesy of two little boys who were brought to us by the words ‘jet’ and ‘lag’.
Welcome to the USA!
All things remaining the same this should be the entry of Wednesday the 29th. Thanks to the International dateline though we were able to re-live Tuesday the 28th so here we are.
SYD-LAX, The Flight!
Remember that advice I gave you at the beginning of my last post? The piece about taking infants with you to skip all of the queues.
Here We Go…
First things first, some advice. The next time you are traveling be sure, if at all possible, to take infants with you.
One Day Till LA
Make no mistake, tomorrow might be the day but we still have 140 different things we need to do. and it took us all day to do about half of them.
Two Days Till LA
We spent most of the morning packing (still) and making sure we had all required paperwork, passports, visas etc.
Three Days Till LA
The countdown is on… We saw most of Kelly’s family for the last time today. It was Ella’s 3rd birthday party…
The Real Packing Begins!
Along the same lines as Wednesday, yesterday and today have proven to be a steep learning curve in the world of mobile technology.
Technology
Whomever said technology was supposed to make our lives easier forgot that before it does, the set-up of such would make our lives a living hell.
One Week To Go
Kelly and I set out early again this morning to get a list of some 35 things done. We succeeded on about half of them which I must say was a whole lot better than I expected.
Tying Up Loose Ends
Do you ever get the feeling that you’ve forgotten something? Or when facing the prospect of being away for so long that you are GOING to forget something?
More Planning
We’ve used most of this week to continue sorting out our flights and accommodation. I’m surprised how difficult it is to arrange 115 consecutive nights accommodation in Green Bay.
What to Pack?
With less than two weeks now before we depart we began to consider the different things that we’ll need for six months away.
Flights Booked!
We booked our flights today, Sydney to Los Angeles at least. At almost $8,000 it was easily the biggest decision of our trip to this point.
The Box That Should Have Been an Envelope
A few weeks ago we accepted an offer from a penpal of ours in Green Bay to share brochures, classifieds and pamphlets of the local areas to help us in advance of the our move…
