Technology
Whomever said technology was supposed to make our lives easier forgot that before it does, the set-up of such would make our lives a living hell.
Have you ever tried to transfer all of the information from one computer to another? Not just the data but your mail profiles, old messages, folders, favorites and everything else that doesn’t easily fit onto a removable drive? If you’re laughing at this, please leave now. Oh and not just one computer to another, an old operating system to a new one. Whilst I’m sure Vista is going to be the next big thing, using it for the first time has proven a huge pain in the “you know what”. I know a lot of people walk through life believing in the mantra, “no regrets”. I absolutely, categorically, 100% regret not buying a Mac. I was so close. The only reason I didn’t was that I was concerned about the learning curve being that we’re six days out from leaving. Now that I’ve begun to experience Vista I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I wish I hadn’t.
In addition to purchasing a new laptop to help us catalogue this journey we bought our first iPod, for music and movies, a portable DVD player for the boys Wiggles and Baby Einstein DVD’s, baby friendly headphones for both Ben and Luc, a handheld digital camera, because the one we currently have is too big to take into a football stadium and all of the required accessories to go with all of them.
With boxes, manuals, chargers and carry-cases all of the living room floor of Kelly’s parents homes dinner with Kelly’s brother and his daughter Ella made for a welcome distraction. It was Ella’s 3rd birthday dinner tonight and if you need anything to remind you just how wonderful life can be, watching a 3 year old and an almost 3 year old sing, clap and blow out birthday candles will do it. It makes you realize how the little things in life are, and will always be the most fulfilling of all.
Though we’re excited about what lies ahead for us, having all of Kelly’s family together so close to our departure is a stark reminder of the fact that we’re going to miss nights like these.
