Word(s) of the Day
Let’s just start today’s entry with the truth. Neither Kelly or I got even half as much sleep as we needed before the night took a turn for the worse. Word to those out there looking to give their 2-year old a glass of Snapple before bed.....don’t. No, hang on… DON’T!
What looked like a bottle of healthy, fresh, nutritionally fulfilling fruit juice turned out to be a ticket for him to go completely crazy. For all those Simpsons fan out there, you know the episode where they are staying in a haunted house and Homer has his creature comforts taken away? It ended with the all-time classic scene where Homer, reading his freshly scrawled walls quotes “No TV and no beer make Homer something something” finished by Marge answering “Go Crazy?” Homer then says “Don’t mind if i do” and goes totally nuts. Well that was our little boy Ben for half an hour or so. He was absolutely gorgeous bouncing of the walls the way he was and going up and down and up and down in the “alligator” (elevator) but we did expect him to be asleep a little earlier than he was and that, was the story for much of the night.
Luc was asleep, then Ben was asleep, then Luc was awake, then Ben was awake, then Luc stayed awake for the best part of 2 hours and Ben thought that that, at 115 in the morning was a good time for 2 bowls of cereal and a spot of Toy Story on the iPod. Whilst it was the middle of the night his call-out to Kelly that he was “hungee” was totally priceless.
Anyway, we got through the night and our boys, who are usually both up watching Dora by 7, had to be woken at 10 for fear they were never in fact going to wake-up at all.
We spent a few hours at the Santa Monica Plaza and 3rd Street Promenade which was quite an event we must say. Whilst there we met Andrea, a UW alumni who, thanks to Ben’s Packers hat, stopped us in the street to talk Green Bay the Packers and Wisconsin. It was so great to stop and chat for a while about something that was common to us all. After some playing in the toy shop, Our kids that is, we headed back for what we hope is going to be a much more settled night’s sleep.
If the Packers thought pre-season training was tough perhaps they should come and spend a few nights with us. That’d sort them out I reckon.
