Last Day in LA
So here are two immediate differences between the US and back home. Firstly, it’s Fathers Day back home today but no sign of it here (apparently it’s in June at some point). Secondly, it’s the Labour Day long weekend here which we had a little while ago. Being on vacation for both and just a week out from seeing the Packers open their season in Green Bay makes me realise just how lucky I really am.
What with the long weekend we decided to stay another night in LA. We were supposed to head of today but the weather was great, the place was buzzing and we had a few things we wanted to do still so it’s Green Bay tomorrow.
Today was just shopping, swimming (Ben has a new “Shrek” pool ring that he’s very chuffed about) and re-packing. Not very exciting shopping so I won’t go into it. If however I haven’t said it already, the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica is such a cool place to be. If you haven’t been you’ve got to go. If not for the shopping go for the entertainment. The street performers are absolutely incredible. You know that show America’s Got Talent? (Australia and I think even The UK have their own versions also). Well let me tell you, America does have talent and most of it, from 8 to 80 years old is on display down there. It’s really cool.
Outside of our sojourn to the mall we packed up ready for an 830am flight that we (were told) had to be at the airport for 2 hours in advance. So it’s a 5am start in the morning, to be ready and out by 6, to get there by 630 to be in Green Bay via Minneapolis/St Paul at 530pm. If only Ben and Luc knew what the next 24 hours has in store.
By the way, another word of warning. Despite everything you think you remember about air travel do not under any circumstance forget this. It’s all well and good to plan things as you go. But waiting until the day before to book your flights will cost you more than double what you were expecting. Pretty simple huh? Yeah, I now remember too and I’ll say, it’s not something I think I’m likely to forget again.
