Santa Monica Pier
It was very difficult to get motivated today. It’s beautiful and warm outside, you can smell the salt in the air but we are all so short on sleep that lazing around the hotel seems like, again, the best thing to do. Whilst in the here and now I am quietly punishing myself for not hob-knobbing down on Rodeo (sounds like I know what I’m talking about huh?) I know that in the scheme of a 120 day trip, starting it the right way is most important. Anyway, I don’t want to bore you with anymore stories of jet lagged children and poor sleeping habits.
After much to-ing and fro-ing we did get out this afternoon which was great. It’s about a half mile walk to the Santa Monica Pier from where we are staying so we went down there and it was fantastic. From a distance at least. The view from afar is great and the beaches as you walk onto the Pier are awesome. With the Hollywood hills posing as a frame in the background you really do feel like you’re walking straight into a postcard. As for the Pier itself, there are a few shops to see and games to play but it was so loud and full-on that we didn’t stay too long. In fact, the 25 minutes Kelly spent waiting in line for an ice-cream was equal to about half the time we actually spent there in total. Suffice to say Ben loved it so that’s all that counts.
It was really warm today, 95F as they use here but mid 30’s on the Celsius scale. Take that, with adjusting body clocks and we had the recipe for two sleepy little munchkins by the late afternoon. I know I said no more sleep talk but we took turns carrying Ben all the way back to the hotel whilst Luc slept comfortably in the shade of his brand new stroller.
Aside form our first adventure out in to the real world I don’t have a whole more to report, outside of the anticipation of actually getting to Green Bay and settling into somewhere permanently - whatever or wherever that might be.
