Thanksgiving Plans
We’ve had alot people ask about our plans for Thanksgiving this year. Some because they are curious, some because they’d like to know what our travel arrangements are for the game in Detroit. (Please excuse the shocker of a photo by the way. What a face, what a haircut.....)
We’re staying here in Green Bay for Thanksgiving. The atmosphere, shopping and parades that go with it are just too important to spend alone in a stadium 7 hours away from my family and friends. Even if Kelly and the boys did come with me it’s too far away from the friends that have made such generous offers to have us attend their family celebrations for this good old American tradition.
Since before we arrived Kelly and I had spoken about a number of occasions and how we might celebrate them as a family. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas were of top priority. We don’t celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving at home so, if possible, we wanted to make the most of both whilst we are here.
What’s just as exciting as the turkey itself is that I get to see my first and only game of Packers football on television. Of the 10 weeks we have seen the Packers play I am yet to see a nationally televised game and that, just like seeing them live, just like celebrating this occasion, is all a part of the experience we are living.
From watching TV this evening and talking to football fans all over the country I have learned that watching football on Thanksgiving Day is as big a tradition as eating turkey and being with the family itself. That being the case, I want to do what everybody else is doing. I want to hear the commentators talk about the Packers, I want to see the close-ups and I want to see all of the instant replays.
With respect to the actual occasion, we want to see the Macy’s parade on TV, decorate a table, eat turkey, help make pumpkin pie and wear a really daggy woollen sweater. (Or is the sweater reserved for Christmas only?)
On this trip we have alot to be thankful for and on this day especially, being home with family is the best place to be.
