GB Botanical Gardens

What’s with the fog today? First off, I can’t believe that the temperature is above 32F (0c) and second, I can’t believe that the snow is melting. We can actually see the grass again. For so long we have been told that once it comes it’s here until March so this warm weather (ha!) has surprised us a little.

Kelly ran errands today like she hadn’t run them in 6 weeks. Poor thing was up and down, in and out and pretty much all over the place for most of the day. As for the boys and I, we took it pretty easy. Alot of shared computer time between Ben and I (he has become quite playhousedisney.com addict) and alot of wrestling and cuddling with Luc.

I was on the edge of my seat for much of the day waiting for a call re: tickets to the Bears game on the weekend. I had ordered them a few weeks ago but hadn’t heard anything until last night so I was concerned that I’d be circling the lot on Sunday morning again, doing my best not to look like a desperado. The call came and with a deep breath, we were all sorted. We had tickets in our hands for the final away game of the season so I couldn’t have been happier.

We were off to the Green Bay Botanical Gardens tonight to enjoy their festival of lights and it was really fun. I never in a million years thought I’d say this but at 35F (2c) it was quite a balmy night. Perhaps it was the mist in the air and the bright white sky? Perhaps, after experiencing cold like we have over the last couple of weeks we have learned that temps in the low 30’s (single digits Celsius) aren’t so bad after all. (If this is the case we are going to fry when we get home in Feb and the temps are up around 100.)

The whole night was great. We met up with Trisha and Nathan and their 3 little ones. We also met their friends Stephanie and Karl. The night started at Fazoli’s which is another place we hadn’t been so it was fun to get there. We don’t really have an equivalent to that back home as most of our Italian restaurants are individually owned and operated. Usually by Italian families that had immigrated to Oz at some point in the last 80 years.

The comparison between the 2 styles? Fazoli’s is fast and affordable. Our Italian restaurants are more of a dining experience. Alot slower, alot pricier but alot more like “Mama yousta make” In fact, if you popped your head through the kitchen door, it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see the Mamma of the family in their cooking her time honoured recipes for their patrons.

After that we were off to the Gardens. There was an awesome train set (above) to start that Ben thought was just great and Luc found completely mesmerising. From there we took off outside to see the some really great displays:

Mulit-coloured Christmas Trees

Watering Can and garden display

The Golden Arch

Family portrait under the Golden Arch

The Chinese Garden

and Ducks on the frozen lake

Ben was adorable, walking around with his hands in his pockets as he refuses to wear gloves and Luc, wearing a little thin of being in the pram, had the iPod to keep him company. The night finished with some warmth by the fire, a hot chocolate, sugar cookies and two very tired boys falling asleep in the car. Just the way we like it.

Thanks again for the invite Trisha, we really did have a great night.
