Now I know we should have done this a long time ago but Ben and I went out to get a Christmas tree this morning. We did actually buy a tree especially for the boys and set it up in their room at the beginning of the month but we left the big, family room tree until now. I was hoping to have gone north and cut our own tree but with weekend operating hours limiting the time we had, it literally got away from us.

I considered going during the week and taking a tree “self service” as they say but with my limited knowledge of the area and the actual way by which you would cut a tree, transport and pay for it, I must say I was a little saw shy. That and the fact that i didn’t have a saw made the decision quite easy in the end.

We made our way to Steins to get a big natural cut tree and ended up with a great, 10 foot, Balsam Fir. There were alot of different trees, priced differently that looked almost identical. There were 2 trees in particular that looked like a mirror image of each other. There was $30 between them though so i was happy to get the one that looked like it was more expensive but wasn’t. If that makes sense. We have had natural trees before but never like this and certainly never this size. In fact, we are so new to this that I had to get instructions as to how we use a tree stand.

We got the tree and our Happy Meal, Saturday special, lunches home and set about trying to get it into the apartment. When the tree is wider than the doors you have to walk through and taller than the roof of your abode allows, this, not surprisingly is quite difficult. Difficult but fun. We got the tree in, took about a foot off the top and set it up with pride of place by the window. Is there anywhere else to put a tree?

Between the two of us, Kelly and I still can’t believe it’s Christmas. Not because of the old cliché “It’s snuck up on us again” but because it is so far removed from what we are used to that it’s difficult to comprehend it. In saying that, with two Christmas trees in the house, decorations at the ready (thank you again Kathy) and presents already wrapped it really is “beginning to feel alot like Christmas”.
