Thanksgiving 3/4 Snow
Snow
Hoping to keep some sort of rhythm to this week’s entry I decided to keep our snow experience separate to that of the game and dinner. Last night’s fall was well and truly the biggest we have seen so far. Apparently, thanks to eyewitness reports from Rob and Tari, Kelly was quite giddy at the fact that the snow was falling the way it was. Eager to enjoy every second she jumped onto the back patio to experience it first hand. Laughing, jumping, hand clapping and trying to catch it on her tongue were just a few of the expressive terms i was given.
I wasn’t totally aware of the snow until this morning when I saw it all over the outside of our block. It was fantastic to see it in real life for a change. I couldn’t wait to get amongst it either. It was even nicer at Rob and Tari’s. Like something straight out of a Christmas fairytale.
At halftime Kelly and I went out and literally played like children in what little snow hadn’t melted away. I say that because I’m sure that’s what most of you locals would have thought when you saw it. To us there was a ton of it. I was looking for skis at one point. Ok, so I knew there wasn’t that much. Quite frankly, if my foot sinks an inch into the snow, which it did, then that’s alot of snow. (I’ll be waiting for the barrage of comments and emails on that one come January.....)
Aware of how funny we must have looked in the front yard of a suburban home playing with a little bit of snow we continued anyway. We know our party was watching from the windows inside. We were certain the neighbours were watching us thinking we were totally loopy too. We didn’t care, it was great fun.
We walked in it to see only our footprints left behind. We picked it up and threw it above our heads, tossed snowballs and took about 100 photos (seriously). Here’s a few things we learned about the snow and ice today:
1. Snow is freezing when you pick it up
2. Ice is slippery when you walk on it
3. Footpaths can also be slippery as not all ice can be seen
4. Salt roughens the path so that you can walk sure footed again
5. Yellow snow doesn’t taste like pineapple juice
I know you’re probably thinking “duh” to all of the above but you say some pretty stupid things when you experience something for the first time. The idea for that little list by the way came after Kelly and I went back inside and once of us (not saying who Wayne) exclaimed “Man, snow’s cold when you touch it”.
