Luc’s Birthday Party

Luc had his first birthday party this afternoon. Just a small affair with some friends we have made here and their kids but it was a great day none the less.

It was a quiet morning leading into the party thanks to the last few days being as big as they have been. That didn’t stop Ben from being excited the whole time wanting to know what time the party was starting though.

After a quick stop to Kohl’s to buy the birthday boy a new top for his special day it was on.

We were amazed that no-one here had ever tried fairy bread before. Fairy bread, along with party pies and mini sausage rolls are all Australian birthday party staples. To be more specific on the bread though, grab yourself a slice of white, butter it and sprinkle 100’s and 1000’s (aka sprinkles or nonpareils) on it. Cut that piece into triangular halves or quarters (doesn’t matter either way) and there you have it. Fairy Bread. It is one of the sweetest little treats you’ll ever taste.

Outside of Fairy Bread we had everybody try vegemite on a French stick. That didn’t go down as famously but it was enjoyed by some which surprised me a little. Then we had the cake before we slowly wrapped things up. Here was another big surprise. At the conclusion of singing the “Happy Birthday” song, us Aussies all cheer hip-hip hooray 3 times to close the song out. Not here. Kelly and I were the only ones in the room hooraying and it felt kind of funny.

It wasn’t long after that the sun went down, our friends had left and the party was all but finished. Luc certainly enjoyed himself and the few extra toys have sure come in handy. Thankyou again to all.
