We Do, We Think…

A lot has happened since the first time we spoke about the idea of moving to Green Bay and today so let’s just start at the beginning shall we:

1. Both Kelly and I decided it was a good idea
2. We re-listed our house for sale as suggested in my earlier post
3. We sold our house and have now moved in with Kelly’s parents
4. I have quit my job in preparation for what lies ahead

In other words, we have decided to change our lives like nobody we know and follow a football team to the other side of the world just because we can. In the end it was convenient that we needed to sell our house and buy a bigger one anyway. It was convenient that I was bored with my job and wanted to do something that was more interesting and it was convenient that our eldest, Ben, is 2 years away from starting school and with that goes any hope of doing what we were planning to do.

I may have said this already but it’s true. There are millions of jobs to do and there are millions of homes to live in. Why not wait 6 months and do something different in the meantime?

At this point though I must say that from my point of view this easy. I know the Packers, what they mean to me and I enjoy travelling. The real credit must go to Kelly and the fact that she is prepared to see this through with no interest in football (or any sport) what so ever. Not that that’s even a big thing. In agreeing to this, she has agreed to spend what money we have left from the sale of our house on a trip we don’t need to take with a 2 year old and a nine month old to a place that is so far from family and friends that they may as well not exist at all. A place that is not only foreign but colder than anywhere else we have ever experienced and on so many flights during the season we’d make a Fortune 500 Exec. blush with embarrassment.

Put it this way, and I’m asking mothers in particular. Would you agree to move to Australia from the comfort of your own home and away from your family and friends with 2 infants for 6 months just to watch football? Oh, and would you do so without a home or job to return to? Note: Do not answer that if you’ve just come home from the supermarket on one of those “I’m never taking those bloody kids to the mall ever again” type trips.
