Lunch With the Mayor
I spoke to a mate of mine, Cade, in Dallas last night about the Cowboys loss. I met him when I was there in Week 13 when he offered Don and I his last Brats for the evening. For those that have been following from the beginning you may recall me writing about it back then. He and his buddies were great guys that looked after us well as we spoke all things football, from east coast to west.
Funny, in speaking with him prior to the game he didn’t like their chances against the Giants and his prediction turned out true. I was pleased that we’d won of course, it meant not having to travel again. Cade on the other hand, a ticket broker by profession and a good guy at that, was left with 5 figures worth of useless tickets to a game in Dallas that will never be played.
Once I was off the phone I spent most of last night and this morning doing my best to update the website with the weekend’s happenings. Whilst doing so I watched as the game day video on YouTube topped 1000 views in less than 24 hours. I find that totally amazing.
I worked pretty solid until 1130 before our friend Kathy came over to watch the boys for a couple of hours. Kelly and I, not having been out for a little while, had been invited by Dal and his wife Lorna to join them for lunch with the Kiwani’s Club of Green Bay and sing the “Packers Fight Song”. This was new to me and in most cases new means fun. We also met Randy Stary who regaled us with his song “Rock to the Big Game”. You can hear it here, it’s a Packer original.
Before lunch Kel and I went outside to speak with some of the TV stations about the last weekend and what the win meant for our plans to leave at the end of month. I’m sure by the time you actually get to read this you will have seen something out there with my ugly mug on it. (That’s why, whenever I get the chance, I throw in a pic of Kelly talking to the camera, not me.)
Lunch was delicious, we met alot of really nice people and even got to say hello to the Mayor and his wife, pictured at the top. Kel and I got up and had a little chat to the group about our trip and by the time my blabbermouth was done the meeting was adjourned. On the way home we snapped a whole lot of pics of some more of the things we’ll miss once we’re gone.
- More street signs, parks, gas stations even the local Walgreens. Oneida Street, Lombardi, Mason and Ashland. The Regency, our home for the first 6 weeks we were here, Coaches Corner and the Ray Nitshcke Bridge over the Fox River. They’re the sorts of things that most people living here wouldn’t think twice about but the very things I’d like to see in print until the day we get back here again.
You may also recall, only a few posts ago, I showed you the artwork of another friend of mine, Doug. Lost for words about the weekend’s game he came up with the image on the left. It most certainly captures the essence of Packer football if you ask me. There’s more to the image than first meets your eye by the way.....Click the pic to check more of his work.
