Luc’s 1st Birthday
Happy Birthday dear Lucas..... Happy Birthday to you. It was Luc’s 1st birthday today and what a conundrum we found ourselves in. Sydney at the moment is 17 hours ahead of Green Bay and Luc was born on the 20th November. With the time difference though the 20th here is the 21st there.
Should we have celebrated his birthday yesterday or stuck with today? According to his birthplace he was 366 days old in Sydney today but 365 (plus 17 hours) here. Having said that we’re here and today is the 20th? It just didn’t seem right celebrating it on the 19th to compensate.
Either way we had a great little morning today. Luc, with the help of his big brother, got to open his first presents and we as a family got to play with them all. C’mon Dads, isn’t playing with brand new toys on the morning of Birthdays and Christmas one of the best things to do with your little ones? I could do it all morning. As it turns out i was less welcome than i thought as Ben and Luc made good use of the new toys they had at their disposal. Thanks boys.
We had some friends over for a little lunch and cake, both beautifully homemade by Kel I might add. We sang Happy Birthday again and then the Birthday boy had a little rest as you do when the day is all about you. Funnily enough Ben had a rest too which i guess it what happens when the day isn’t all about you.
Our plans for the evening were to head down to Appleton for the Annual Appleton Christmas Parade but Ben was a little under the weather. Turns out it had nothing to do with Luc’s birthday after all. We wondered if it had anything to do with all of the icing he had consumed earlier on though. Remarkably, after 2 hours of barely being able to open his eyes he saw a bowl a chips, helped himself and was on the fast track to recovery. He was gorgeous when he exclaimed “Um Daddy, um, I think the chippies made me feel all better again”. This happened after dark so the 4 of us, after bath time settled in to watch the parade on television at least.
Our friend from Appleton, Amy with her two bigger boys Shae and Camden came to see us as we couldn’t make it down there. They came bearing gifts, cakes and balloons for Luc. We had another little celebration for the Birthday boy before the young ones ran out of puff and we decided to call it a night.
