Wanting to experience everything we can in what little time we are here can sometimes prove difficult. Particularly when the weather turns wet and we don’t have any transport. Having tried unsuccessfully to stop the rain myself I figured the best way to go about fixing our situation was to come to terms with the weather and organise a vehicle to keep us on the road regardless.

I went for my first solo drive today in a car that didn’t belong to a friend of ours. You see, everybody we have met along the way so far has been so nice to us. So much so that after 5 weeks we were still being chauffeured around town without the need to actually do any driving ourselves. Whilst this is handy, relying on other people can be a little tough and I’m sure having us rely on them can be much the same at times. On that note a big thank you to Tari, Kathy, Amy all the way from Appleton and all of the crew here at the hotel. Be prepared for less phone calls and emails every time we need a bottle of milk, a packet of nappies or a ride to the local Chuck E’s.

To the rest of Green Bay however, be on the lookout for a sliver/blue Dodge heading down the wrong side of the road on a highway near you. If you are employed by or have any interest in the Enterprise Car Rental organisation don’t be alarmed, I’m just having a laugh.....If you are a regular, road using patron of the city of Green Bay, this is no laughing matter. At home we drive on the left hand side of the road, from the right hand side of the car using kilometres for speed limits not miles. Why you do it differently here and to the rest of the European and Commonwealth countries in the world is beyond me but you do so we’ll just have to do our best.

Anyway, it’ll please all of you to know that, despite my warnings, after 5 weeks I was able to familiarise myself with the ways of your world and drive quite safely for the best part of this evening.

Sure it took me 45 minutes to get from Downtown to Ashwaubenon (5 minutes away to our Aussie friends) and not much less to get back but that’s because I had no idea where I was going. The driving was all on the right side, very safe and it adhered to every road rule required. I just need to stop mixing my North’s and South’s and everything should fall into place.
